Frequently asked questions
Have a different question and can’t find the answer you’re looking for? Reach out by sending us an email and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
- What exactly is compared?
- Each sheet is converted to CSV: one row per line with cells separated by commas. Cell values are compared as they are displayed in Excel, so formula results are compared rather than the formulas themselves.
- Does it compare every sheet?
- Yes. When a workbook has more than one sheet, each sheet is labelled with its name so you can tell where every change is.
- What happens if a row was inserted?
- The comparison is line by line, so an inserted or deleted row shows up as a single change instead of making every row below it look different.
- Does it compare formatting or colours?
- No. Only cell values are compared. Fonts, colours, column widths and comments are ignored.
- Can I compare CSV files?
- Yes. Upload .csv files or paste CSV text into the editors and they are compared the same way.
- Are my spreadsheets uploaded?
- Files are read and compared in your browser. Nothing is sent to our servers unless you choose to save or share a diff.
