JSON compare: Paste two JSON documents to see what changed. Formatting and key order are normalised first, so only real differences show up.

How to compare two JSON files
- Paste the original JSON on the left and the changed JSON on the right, or upload .json files.
- Choose how to normalise them: format, sort keys, and optionally ignore array order.
- Review the highlighted differences. Minified and pretty-printed JSON compare cleanly against each other.
Useful for checking API responses before and after a deploy, comparing configuration files between environments, or reviewing changes to fixtures and test snapshots.

Frequently asked questions
Have a different question and can’t find the answer you’re looking for? Reach out by sending us an email and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
- Does key order matter?
- Not with Sort keys turned on, which is the default. Both documents are rewritten with their object keys in alphabetical order, so {"a":1,"b":2} and {"b":2,"a":1} are treated as identical.
- Can I ignore the order of array items?
- Yes. Turn on Ignore array order to sort array items before comparing. Leave it off when order is meaningful, for example in a list of steps.
- What if my JSON is invalid?
- You will see the parse error, and that side is compared as plain text instead, so you can still find the problem.
- Are very large numbers compared exactly?
- In current browsers, yes: numbers with more than 15 significant digits, such as 64-bit IDs, keep their exact digits. Older browsers can round them, and you will see a warning when that might happen.
- Is my JSON sent anywhere?
- No. Parsing and comparison happen in your browser. Nothing is sent to our servers unless you choose to save or share a diff.
